Digital Art: Introduction

In the introduction of Digital Art, Christiane Paul describes the orgins of this fairly new form or art. Early computers such as ENIAC and UNIVAC served as precursors for man-machine relationships. With the advent of ARPANET by the government and the Graphic User Interface (GUI) by Xerox, digital art became more popular. During the 1960's performers such as John Cage combined digital elements into their work and performances. The implementation of new technology in the 70's and 80's such as video and satellites added new facets for painters, sculptors, architects, printmakers, photographers, and video and performance artists to express themselves. With the expansion of the internet and other forms of media, digital art is still a growing and changing art form.

With the growing use of the internet and computers, will traditional forms of art such as painting and scultpting become less popular?
